Spring has sprung it’s time to blog

The spring equinox has just passed and today’s rains have washed away almost all of the snows of winter: a time for new beginnings. A time to begin a blog.

I’ll put most of this on the “about” page but it seems rude to launch into a blog without so much as an introduction. So let me introduce myself. I live in Ottawa, Canada with my husband and standard poodle. I’ve lived in Ottawa most of my life and for most of my life have been trying to live a good life in relation to the more-than-human world and the myriad creatures I share that world with.

The idea for this blog came from meeting kindred spirits who were new to Ottawa and who expressed frustration at trying to live environmentally sensitive lives in this city. It’s really not that hard to do, you just need to know where to go and who to talk to. The same as living in any other city. After I found myself writing down directions to stores that might supply them with organic clothes or food or no-VOC paints for the umpteenth time I thought perhaps a blog might be simpler.

I don’t pretend to know everything about living green in Ottawa. In fact I’m hoping people will use the comments liberally to add to or even correct my suggestions. But I hope that reading about how I and my family try to minimize our footprint will help you, the reader to do the same. And maybe together we can inform and inspire each other to a livable future for all.

While my comments will centre on life in Ottawa, I hope also to use this blog and its comments to connect with others trying to live similarly green lives in other parts of the world.
