From garage sales to wild foods, there’s something green coming up this weekend for everyone:
Great Glebe GREEN Garage Sale
Ecology Ottawa’s 5th annual Great Glebe GREEN Garage Sale is part of the Great Glebe Garage Sale taking place on Saturday, May 26, 2012. Ecology Ottawa’s event is offering great bargains as well as live music performances, a bake sale and vegetarian barbecue and a lot more. Proceeds support Ecology Ottawa (90%) and the Ottawa Food Bank (10%). There’s still time to volunteer or even donate some stuff. The Green Garage Sale happens from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at 680 and 690 Bank Street.
Cycling at ArtsPark
Hintonburg Cycling Champions are once again holding an All Ages, All Abilities Bike Parade as part of ArtsPark. It’ll be on Saturday, May 26 at 10 a.m. (meet at 9:45 a.m. at the Hintonburg Community Centre if you want to participate). The Cycling Champions will also be offering free bike parking from 10-4 at the Parkdale Park during ArtsPark.
Plant Walks
Local wild plant expert Amber Westfall is inviting people to join her on a series of Plant Walks about Herbs and Wild Foods in the City. She’ll be talking about how to identify edible plants and how to harvest and use them safely. The first of the monthly Plant Walks is on Saturday, May 26, 2012 from 2-4 p.m. and will cover spring tonics and tender greens. Walks are $15 each; register in advance at wildfoodinthecity at gmail dot com. Check out https://www.facebook.com/events/129504327181873/ for more information.
Run for Biodiversity
It’s Ottawa Race Weekend, and lots of people are running for many good reasons. Among them are USC Canada and friends, who are using the opportunity to Run for Biodiversity. Check the website to find out how to cheer them on or donate to support USC’s work with a community-based group in Nepal on environmental initiatives.
Let us know of any other environment-themed activities you’re aware of. Special thanks to PlanetFriendly.net and Ecology Ottawa for their very useful calendars—check them out!
