Get set for spring by recycling some unused stuff—while supporting some good causes:
Electronics recycling
Ontario Electronic Stewardship, an industry-based non-profit which provides collection sites for electronics waste, also partners with organizations to host waste-collection events. For example, you can contribute your e-waste to support Broadview Avenue Public School Parent Council or Osgoode Parent School Council on April 21, or the Girl Guides of Canada on April 28. See the website for details and locations.
Clothing recycling
Clean out your closet while supporting the Canadian Cancer Society and the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation: donate your “gently used” clothing and accessories to the Clean Your Closet for Cancer event on April 29. Donations are accepted up to April 21. Check the website or Facebook page for details.
Let us know of other recycling events you find out about!
Another way to support some local charities and the environment is to check out the rainbarrel sales offered through Rainbarrel.ca. (Rainbarrels are great for storing rainwater to use in gardening.) There’s a list of upcoming sales at http://rainbarrel.ca/sales/.
I should mention that it’s also Cleaning the Capital time: the City of Ottawa is holding its Spring Cleaning the Capital campaign until May 15, with Capital Cleanup Weekend April 27-29. The City asks residents and community groups to join up to pick up litter in public places (parks, sidewalks, bus shelters, etc.) More information at http://www.ottawa.ca/en/env_water/green_living/community/cleaning/index.html.
Hi there! Ecology Ottawa also hosts a huge Great GREEN Glebe Garage Sale every year. We will accept all the used stuff you’re looking to get rid of! It will support a great cause! 🙂 Check out our website, ecologyottawa.ca…more details to come soon on how to donate!
Thanks for spreading word of the upcoming Clean Your Closet for Cancer event Denise! This is going to be a fabulous shopping experience for a great cause. Learn more and join the FB event at http://www.facebook.com/events/339398812773819/?ref=ts
